Telephone Building Penthouse Conference Room

ADC was invited to the penthouse office of the historic Telephone Building in Santa Monica. Rios Clementi Hale refreshed and updated the building a few years prior, the tenant occupying the magnificent roof deck were left with a mechanical room in the center of the spacious rooftop deck that hadn’t been addressed within the scope of the renovation which wasn’t useful or aesthetically pleasing. Identifying and leveraging the desirable aspects of the existing structure, ADC transformed this existing space into a magnificent conference room with expansive views of the ocean and city on 3 faces which opened up to the roof deck terrace facing the offices on the 4th face with an operable window wall. Custom fenestration adhered to minimal structural components was designed to maximize views while working within the constraints of the existing building, bespoke provisions for hidden motorized shades, lighting, and low voltage systems were included in the renovation to transform this space from an unsightly shell of an abandoned mechanical room to the brilliant hub of this incredible rooftop office facility.


On an existing breathtaking hilltop dwelling in Malibu, ADC was brought in to refine and reprogram countless aspects of the contemporary structure to take a beautiful building to a superior level of livability and comfort. Performed scope included designing bespoke hidden retractable insect screens befitting the 10’ tall and over 20’ long pocketing Fleetwood fenestration systems that would allow the resident to enjoy the outside climate freely without uninvited rural hilltop wildlife inside, all this was accomplished without infringing on the clean lines of the building. An existing cedar-clad sauna was redesigned to include both natural gas and infrared heat sources while adding a shower and cold plunge pool outside. A trellis was proposed to capture an existing sitting area of the yard while providing a dramatic sense of outdoor living with sweeping views of of Catalina Island while providing variable privacy and shade to the occupants. Custom lighting systems were devised and integrated into antique sculpture and moroccan fixtures for thematic effects. The entry sequence was to be removed and replaced with a graceful combination of materials and art which leverage the unique properties of the site, thereby providing visitors with a direction and sequence leading guests from the street to the astounding panoramic view which unveils with the opening of the secure courtyard doors. While this design was in progress ADC directed new IT systems for communication, new storage and maintenance facilities, a new outdoor lounge adjacent to the theater, meaningful revisions to the Lutron systems, and appropriately specific art lighting. With so many aesthetic improvements it was necessary to rework the AV closet in addition to solving an accumulation of functional issues that plagued the Owner since he began to occupy the residence. Decades of high end residential collaboration suited ADC to present comprehensive and feasible solutions which combine form and function to raise the bar of this distinguished property in a thoughtful way.


During the lavish refurbishment of the legendary Oceana Hotel in Santa Monica, ADC was brought on to the project team to assist with back of house facilities and various finishing details. Although the work was sometimes inglorious in comparison to the well-appointed furnishings of the guest rooms, choosing the right means, methods, and materials to accomplish mission critical tasks in the midst of an aggressive schedule in the backbone of the operations requires experience and understanding. The application of this understanding of program and function gathered through years of collaboration with luxury hospitality projects provided the basis for a successful operation. ADC in cooperation with executive hotel management facilitated creative and practical solutions on the fly to take an existing disconnected maze of hallway, kitchen, and storage transforming these spaces into the bustling functional back bone for a successful boutique hotel operation.

Mechanical Driveway

While collaborating on a Hollywood Residence a local subcontractor furnished a 4 car parking lift system in a two car garage. TR Wurster received and installed the lift system in addition to fabricating and installing the surrounding steel structural components and some finish components. Since this was a distressed project having been partially completed in a very poor manner by a terminated GC, ADC analyzed and repaired the structural deficiencies caused by faulty workmanship while resolving the structural and architectural design conflicts. During the analytical modeling of existing conditions using referential point cloud data, ADC discovered that a low clearance sports car couldn’t enter the garage due to the existing approach elevation datum established by the street approach. ADC came to the rescue by designing and modeling an innovative mechanical solution to solve this problem of geometry to resolve and restore the intended function to this garage.

Little Valley

The Client had an existing no-frills stable in her Hidden Hills estate where she wanted to not only provide residence to her equine companions, but to expand the social program with her beloved riding partners. ADC reimagined her existing stable to facilitate a social program where human and horse could enjoy association in a casual and comfortable way, each mammal having the highest order of creature comforts. By integrating an indoor and outdoor living area with an open program where the horses could join humans for interaction at will, a relaxed environment complimenting the architecture of the other buildings within this estate compound was crafted to facilitate a cross-species socialization program that engenders friendship and delight without obstruction, while allowing the pleasant Southern California climate to open the walls creating a seamless and comfortable indoor/outdoor experience in any weather condition.

June Cabana

ADC was engaged by a discerning client who wanted to add a poolside outdoor living space to their spacious and historic estate built in 1929 in Hancock Park. The area needed to complement the existing Spanish architecture while providing the bustling family and their guests with a outdoor space for relaxation and entertainment. ADC collaborated with the client to develop the design, procure the entitlements, and TRWurster built the structure and self-performed most of the work. For those items that TRWurster could not effectively perform in house ADC managed the remainder of the procurement and installation to help the client complete the project in an efficient and cost-effective way. An open cabana with exposed beam ceilings was conceived including a fireplace, outdoor television, lounge, and eating area; open countertops provide the perfect poolside back drop to build memories of friends and family during those delightful California evenings!


ADC was engaged to provide extensive design services for this upscale Pacific Palisades estate including producing interior millwork design packages. Bespoke millwork with ornate detailing adorned every room of the house, so each room required thought and planning using TRWurster’s structural installation as the basis for coordination of the interior finishes. The development of the interior finishes levereged our structural BIM as the framework for design development. Detailed millwork plans, 3D renderings, and virtual walkthroughs were produced and presented by ADC along the way so that the Owner could make informed decisions and provide feedback as we responded to each and every one of the Owner’s preferences. This coordination was performed with accuracy before proceeding with the work, all of which produced stunning results with a high level of efficiency!
